How will the pricing change affect me?

Starting December 15, 2022, you may see a new fee for stocks & bonds investing with Betterment. To determine how pricing changes will affect you, please see the questionnaire below.

To get started, are you currently on our Digital or Premium plan?  You can view your current plan by logging in via web browser and navigating to Settings.

  • If Premium, your fee will remain at .40% (40 bp) per year.
  • If Digital, continue to the next question.

Are you or someone in your household eligible to participate in a Betterment 401(k), meaning you are an active employee of a Betterment 401(k) plan whether or not you have funded your 401(k) account, OR are you a former employee of a Betterment 401(k) plan with a funded Betterment 401(k) account?
  • If yes, your fee will remain at .25% (25 bp) per year.
  • If no, continue to the next question.

Do you or someone in your household have an Optum HSA invested at Betterment, whether funded or unfunded?
  • If yes, your fee will remain at .25% (25 bp) per year.
  • If no, continue to the next question.

Do you or your household have $250+ in recurring monthly deposit(s)? You can view recurring deposits by logging in via web browser and navigating to Transfers > Pending Transfers.
  • If yes, your fee will remain at .25% (25 bp) per year.
  • If no, continue to the next question.

Do you or someone in your household have a recurring withdrawal set for a retirement income account? You can view recurring withdrawals by logging in via web browser and navigating to Transfers > Pending Transfers.

  • If yes, your fee will remain at .25% (25 bp) per year.
  • If no, continue to the next question.


Is your household Betterment balance below $20k? You can view your Betterment balance on the homepage of your account, whether logged in via web browser or in the mobile app.

  • If your balance is below $20k, your new Stock & Bond investing fee is $4 monthly.
  • If your balance is above $20k, your fee will remain at .25% (25 bp) per year.
