Below you can read about how fees are calculated depending on your pricing plan.  Please note, if you withdraw your entire balance before the end of the month or year, you’re only charged the fee for the days your money was managed by Betterment. Our fees are calculated based on your daily account balance, accrued daily, and charged monthly or upon a full withdrawal. Can you household accounts for families?

You can household your accounts to combine your balances for the purposes of meeting minimum balance requirements for our various plans. Betterment offers automatic householding for customers who open joint accounts or establish taxpayer relationships with one another when turning on TLH+. We also offer manual householding for any two customers who reside at the same address. If you’d like to be householded, or removed from an existing household, please contact us.

Will I be charged the whole annual fee if I use Betterment for just part of the year?

Where do I find the total fees paid to Betterment?

Your total fees can be found on “Activity“, filtered by “Fees”, for a customizable time frame. You can then download a CSV statement to quickly total your fees. You can also see the total lifetime management fees paid to Betterment on “Performance“, under “Total earnings.” Finally, you may find your fees detailed on your statements.

What are the details of December 2022's pricing change?

Betterment is updating its Digital stocks and bonds investing account pricing plan on December 15, 2022.  What’s changing for investment accounts? The base price for your combined stocks and bonds investing accounts will be $4 per month.
